The KEY to professional home cleaning is a clear strategical order to follow beforehand. Not only does a smart order help you reach maximum cleanliness, but it also helps things move faster.

Avoiding that overwhelming feeling of not knowing what to do next is extremely important! Otherwise, it might make you just sit on the couch and lose precious time doing anything else but cleaning. (I know it does for me, lol!)

The first thing we teach new cleaning professionals at Sparkling Clean is our cleaning strategy order. Since space size, personal habits and life moments varies on a broad spectrum, non of us can predict a first-time cleaning. It is important to prepare cleaners to best handle all kinds of ‘work circumstances’ to deliver our high standard of work quality, which our cleaning order guarantees!

Materials and Tools

Before we dive into the cleaning order, let’s gather the necessary materials and tools:

Tools/Appliances:

  • Several microfiber cloths and cotton rags
  • Toothbrush-type tools
  • Vacuum cleaner or broom
  • Mop (we recommend a reusable microfiber mop with at least 3 microfiber strips: 1 for the kitchen, 1 for the bathroom, and 1 for the rest of the house)

Products:

  • Eco-Friendly Bathroom Cleaner
  • All-purpose Cleaner
  • Floor Cleaner

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT NOTE

To maintain cleanliness and prevent cross-contamination, never use the same cloths and mop strips for cleaning the kitchen, bathroom, and the rest of the house. Separate your microfiber cloths and mop strips into three categories:

  • Bathroom
  • Kitchen
  • Living room & Bedrooms

Cleaning Order

Now, let’s dive into the step-by-step cleaning order for a professionally clean home:

Step 1 – Soaking

Begin by walking around your house and identifying items, objects, pots, pans, furniture, or rug spots that require soaking time. This could include greasy surfaces or stubborn stains. Spray or submerge them with inappropriate cleaning solutions to activate the release of grease while you clean the rest of the house.

Step 2 – Tidy-up

In this step, focus on putting back all objects, dishes, and clothes that are out of their designated places. Take a second round throughout your house and ensure everything is in its rightful home. Place dirty dishes in the sink, store salt in the cabinet, transfer dirty laundry to the laundry basket, and organize books on the shelves.

Additionally, if you have laundry to do, start the washing machine during this step and keep an eye on it to transfer the clothes to the dryer when the washing cycle is complete.

*Laundry*

If you have laundry to do (and have a laundry machine at home), turn it on during this step, and keep an eye out to put clothes in the dryer when it is done.

Step 3 – ‘Water Room’ Cleaning

Kitchens and bathrooms tend to harbor the most contaminants in our homes. They are prone to bacteria and fungus buildup due to humidity. Therefore, it is crucial to prioritize cleaning these spaces first.

Begin by cleaning from top to bottom. Start with high shelves, wash dishes, wipe countertops, clean windows, and walls (as thoroughly as you desire), and then move on to sinks, toilet bowls, bathtubs, and storage boxes. Once everything in the ‘water rooms’ is crystal clear, turn on the vacuum cleaner and remove any dust or debris. Finally, finish by mopping the floors.

*Attention *
If the floors of your kitchen and bathroom are BEYOND dirty, you may START this step by vacuuming. Since it may get very wet, vacuuming may be challenging, but keep moping for the end always.

Step 4 – Room Cleaning

Following the top-to-bottom approach, clean each room in your house. Begin by dusting windows, shelves, countertops, tables, and side tables. Ensure that all surfaces are thoroughly cleaned. Once the surfaces are clean, use the vacuum cleaner to remove any dust or dirt from the floors in all the rooms.

Finally, complete the room cleaning process by mopping the floors of each room.

Step 5 – Finishing Touches

In the final step, put away all cleaning materials and tools. Clean out the microfiber cloths and mop strips separately, making sure to avoid cross-contamination by keeping the bathroom, kitchen, and room cloths separate. Fold the laundry, put away recently washed dishes, and attend to any other necessary details.
